Little mommies

Well, if I had any doubt what having another baby would be like, I think I have a good idea now. We had a friend visit the last few days with her baby girl, and the girls could not get enough of her! She is a real cutie, and they were constantly asking to hold her, feed her, playing with her, etc. (I will see if she can send me a pic from her digital camera to post). Actually it took Mariana a bit to warm up, especially since she had to share her high chair, crib, and occasionally Mommy with sweet baby Mary, but once she was past the initial shock she was smothering her right along with Allia. I hope it did not drive my friend crazy ;-), but I sure thought it was sweet! Our new baby will be very well loved!

I can feel it coming

the 2nd trimester, that is. I am not totally better yet, but I can feel the nausea letting up somewhat, and I am starting to have a bit more energy. How exciting! As my sweet husband said, "I had such a wonderful weekend with you...I have been so happy the last few days because I feel like I have my wife back." He as been SO patient and helpful and continues to be.

Thanks be to God that:
1. We have had so many opportunities to offer these sufferings up to him
2. That there is and end to it and more joyful, energetic times to come
3. Last but not least that this is all a result of the amazing miracle of another soul and life that we hope to meet soon!
God is so good!

Sister pics

If your blogging inspiration is nulled by pregnancy hormones, just publish some cute pictures...

My country girls

Allia frequently follows Mariana around the house begging to "read" to her. Occasionally she complies, and it is so sweet!

11 Week Baby

Praise God! We saw our little one looking strong and healthy today...and very wiggly making it difficult to get good pictures! It was so cute, and we were surprised at how big baby is...over 2 inches already! So that is why I am starting to look like I ate way to much for lunch. ;-)

Writing girl too

I am not sure I can give this one up...we were making pictures for Father's Day cards, and Allia wrote her name so beautifully (in the yellow crayon)! Wow!

Counting girl

Allia did the most amazing thing sitting at breakfast this morning with my parents and our family...she counted to 100!!! For the longest time, she was stumped by the tens increments after 20 like 30, 40, etc. But she just randomly started counting this morning and made it all the way to 99...then we filled in the 100 for her! I take this and her suddenly beginning to grasp phonics as a sign that I should probably begin a little more formal schooling with her(Daddy has been itching to do it for a while now). She really seems to be soaking it up these days!

MEME: 8 Random Facts About Me

Lillian tagged me, so here I go:

First, the rules: For this meme, each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

1. I am a Control Freak. Yes, it took me many years to figure it out, but I have always been this way. I like things organized, I like to have a plan and back up plan for every occasion. I am really a sucker for order and routine, although I do really enjoy occasional spontenaity (hence I married Austin!) as long as it does not throw things too off the beaten path. I am learning to curb my craziness to benefit myself, my family, and others instead of drive them crazy...but that is a work in progress. I am also so thankful for my faith that teaches me to surrender control of my life to the Heavenly Father. (which is also a work in progress of course!) My sister will tell you stories of me as a child insisting we leave her house while visiting because it was almost my bed time. What can I say, I value my sleep?! Which brings me to my next item...

2. I am also a bit of a "sleep nazi." I like to get 8 hours of sleep and really do need it. I have a lot of trouble functioning with a lack of sleep, so I will do everything necessary to make sure I get the sleep I need. Which, you can image, makes the "newborn phase" a little difficult for me with only a few hours of sleep here and there. But I have managed to survive. My children also get to bed on time pretty much every night and nap at the same times every day unless there is something really major and un-missable going on.

3. Ok...let's be a little more positive here...I LOVE children and always have. When I was born, my sisters were 14 and 16, so although they took great care of me and I love them very much, I was lonely a lot growing up. I always admired my friends with larger families and therefore have always wanted a "big family" myself where the kids have lots of fun playing together and are rarely "bored." It has been my constant prayer since Mariana was born that she and Allia would be great friends and really enjoy each other as sisters. So far, so good!

4. I really like chocolate. Really dessert in general is a real weakness for me...and Cheetos. Yes, I admit it. There is something I find irresistible about those fluorescent orange, oh-so-bad-for-you chips. I almost never buy them, but when I see them at a birthday party, picnic, etc., I get really excited. Yum. Other than that I really do try to maintain a healthy diet for our family including lots of fruits and veggies, etc. Of course lately, with the lovely pregnancy nausea, Allia can tell you which nearby fast food restaurant I am heading for before we even get there!!! :-0

5. I don't like bangs (on me at least). I have them because I grew up having them and just cannot seem to make myself get rid of them because it just looks so weird to me now to not have them. But I really just don't like them, which is why I have promised myself never to cut bangs on my girls!

6. I am incredibly hot natured (especially in pregnancy!). I sweat when everyone else seems comfortable, and sometimes it can be quite embarrassing!

7. I love to be outside. We spend lots of time walking to the park or playing in the backyard, bike riding, etc. even when it is so cold or hot that nobody else in the neighborhood is out. I just love the sun, fresh air and open space.

8. Last, but not least, I am mechanically challenged. I have so much trouble trying to figure out how things fit together or fix something that is broken, like fingernail clippers that have come apart, clothes pins, you name it. It is so great that my husband is so very talented in that area...but I feel like such a dork sometimes when I have to ask him for the 10th time to put the nail clippers back together!

I tag Julia and anyone else out there who wants to participate. I am fairly new at this blogging thing, and all of my other blog friends have already been tagged!!!

Proud swimmer

"I got to swim in the big pool today." -Allia beamed after her swim lessons this morning.

The two other kids she knows in the class are each a year older than her and in the group that swims in the big pool every day. However, due to her hesitance on the first day, she was placed in a group with a little boy who is quite scared of the water.

So she spent the first two days last week playing with a rubber duckie and splashing in the water until I mustered up enough courage to talk to the instructor. Then on Friday she had a major meltdown because she just did not want to swim with him anymore.

Well, now there is another, braver girl in her group this week. One of the instructors took she and Allia to the big pool today, and she is SO proud. She did great! I was so proud of her too as I munched a protein bar from the "Mommy viewing area"! Just wish I could share photos....sigh....:-)
