In need

of some new ideas...

Do any of you out there have some good, healthy anti-nausea/pregnancy snacks...you know, the combo of protein and carbs that is supposed to hold off the icky feeling for a while? I am already getting sick of trail mix, still like salad with cheese but can only tolerate it once or twice a day, and tuna and apple works well, but I can only have one can of tuna a week! I am already sick of lunch meats and cheeses too. Help please! Thanks. :-)

Sorry you are feeling so bad.... morning sickness is no fun!
The only thing I can recommend is crystalized ginger (also called candied ginger). We always keep a stock on hand as it helps a TON for nausea. I could not have made it through my last pregnancy without it (okay, I am being a bit dramatic).
Anyway.... my favorite supplier is Frontier because the ginger they use is rather woody and so you can kind of "chew" on it for along time or suck on it like a lollipop without actually consuming that much (which, when a full stomach makes you more nauseaus, can be a good thing). Anyway, I usually keep a few pounds of it around.
To get you through moderate morning sickness during the first trimester I would think you might do well to order a pound... any more than that and maybe order 2 or 3. It won't go to waste as it is highly effective (IMHO, at least) and during a round of the stomach bug will certainly be put to good use. You can just throw the bags in the freezer and they will keep indefinitely.
You can buy the ginger here:

Hope that helps!

Hmmm, I'm trying to find some protein-rich snacks too! One thing that helps me is to have some meat on hand...like grilled (or pan-cooked in olive oil) chicken breasts cut up, grilled steak meat, bbq meat, bacon (yeah, real healthy!), or some of those rotisserie chickens you get from the store. I can make quesadillas fairly easily w/ little bits of chicken or steak and cheese. Baked potatoes with some meat and cheese. Cheese and crackers. Or one of my favorites...ice cream :) Again, not the healthiest but maybe you can make some adjustments ;)

Well, a friend and co-worker of mine has been dealing with the same thing. She has some good suggestions on her blog - http://www.devinrose.heroicvirtuecreations.com/blog/2007/05/20/managing-morning-sickness/#more-759.

Congrats again!

I loved the ham and cheese quiche from HEB! Peanut butter and honey on whole wheat tortillas rolled up always made me happy too. I'll keep asking around, there are pregos all around me these days!!! ;)

Hi Kristin!

I came over from Blair's blog. Thought I would chime in with my favorite pregnancy snacks:

1. cottage cheese w/fruit cocktail
2. bruschetta (tomato w/ mozzerella chz and green onions tossed in olive oil on crackers or bread)
3. Peanut butter on celery sticks

Those are my favorites. Hope you feel better soon!!

Thank you all SO much for your help! If this pregnancy follows the others, I have about 7 weeks of nausea left :-p(I am 8 weeks now), so I need all the help I can get. It is tough but totally worth it for a new little life. You all have some great suggestions that I look forward to trying. Thank you and God bless you!

Kristen! Fun to find your blog! Congrats on baby #3! Our prayers are with you. Here are my foods/snacks for pregnancy:
- frozen fruit pops (I think it's the coldness)
- orange juice (though, I've heard this can be a big no no for some because of the acid)
- pizza (make it at home for healthier toppings!)
- mashed potatoes
- good 'ol COKE! (and I wonder why I have 8 lb kids)

Anyway- good luck! PS- Willie was impressed to see the snake Austin killed, though he said it would have been cooler to use a blow-dart. :)
love,
Kristy

Avacados were the magic snack for me. That, and baked potatoes with some simple fixins. Many a drive thru Wendy's for the 99 cent Baked Potato!!!
