We decided to tie in our family vacation to Father's Day again this year since it worked out so well last year. It helps that Austin has June 19 off! After a nice dinner with Pawpaw the night before, we headed to our cabin at Canyon Lake Sunday morning. After a bit of a fiasco trying to eat on the way, we finally ended up at P.F. Chang's (one of Austin's favorites) in New Braunfels for a nice Father's Day lunch. It was delicious and enjoyed by all!
We arrived at the house in the late afternoon. It was wonderful...part of a private ranch/retreat center at the top of several hills. We quickly got settled and went for a swim before dinner. We were visited by the resident wildlife and had lots of fun swimming/doing stunts and wrangler moves in the pool!
After dinner, we hiked/explored more of the property. There was this cool lookout point with a statue of Jesus.
The next day we went to the lake and rented kayaks. The older kids took off on their own, and Austin and I stayed back with the youngest two to swim and fish. Then they both had a turn in the kayak when Allia returned with hers.
We enjoyed watching the Aggies play in the World Series too!The following day, we rented Jet Skis, which proved to be a family favorite. None of us had ever ridden, and much fun was had (though for some of us it was a combination of fun and fear)!
Our last day was rainy, so we went out for lunch and hit the outlet malls. The younger kids did some swimming too. We had a few coming down with an illness, so it was a welcome day of down time before we left the next morning.
Goodbye, Canyon Lake. We hope to be back someday!
