What a week! Poor Stephen had his first football game back from a pulled hip flexor the same night as Anastasia's District tournament and the trip to SA immediately after for regionals. We had suitcases in the car to leave right after, and Gloria had taken Stephen to his game. About halfway through, he went in for a tackle at the same time as one of his (Very big) teammates. The teammate missed the tackle and crashed right into Stephen's shin with his helmet. Gloria called me with the volunteer paramedic on the phone. I was told he had been examined, it was most likely a deep tissue bruise, he was icing it and had ibuprofen and should be ok. But apparently he is very good at hiding pain or was in shock. They even had him try to walk on it, but it buckled and caused intense pain! After Gloria drove him home, she called to tell me it was much worse than they thought and she could tell he was in crazy pain on the way home. My poor guy! After much discussion and prayer, it was decided Austin and the others could care for him (including an urgent care visit the next day for an x-ray), and I would continue with Annie to the out of town tournament. It was confirmed as badly broken the next day, and he was put on bedrest until he could be seen by orthopedics to determine if surgery was necessary. Thankfully, we saw them today, and there was a tiny sliver of bone holding it in place. So no surgery needed but 8 weeks of a full leg cast instead to ensure it does't move! Poor Stephen! Talk about a rough week.
